Who to Contact
Everyone who needs to hear from you: the Spelthorne licensing team, ward councillors, and your MP
Representations through the formal licensing process are the most important thing you can do, but elected representatives also need to know that their constituents are concerned. Here is everyone who should hear from you.
1. Spelthorne Borough Council
This is where formal representations are submitted. The application is listed on their licensing applications page as Golden Slots (Ashford) — 39 Church Road, Ashford, Surrey TW15 2QF. The deadline is 18 June 2026.
- Online: Use the Gambling Licence Representation Form linked from the Spelthorne licensing applications page
- By email: Send to [email protected] with the application reference in the subject line
- By post: Address to the Licensing Team at the address shown at the top of the letter
2. Your Ward Councillors
Your ward councillors are elected to represent your interests so contact them directly to ensure they are aware of your concerns and intend to scrutinise this application.
You can find your ward councillors by name and contact details on the Spelthorne Borough Council website under “Find your councillor”
3. The Licensing Committee
When the application proceeds to a Licensing Committee hearing, you can attend the hearing.
Licensing Committee hearings are open to the public, but on a strictly first come first served basis due to limited space. You can find out how to register your attendance on Spelthorne Borough Council’s website: Committees
4. Your MP
Ashford is in the Spelthorne constituency of the House of Commons. The Member of Parliament for Spelthorne is Lincoln Jopp. If you’re a constituent, get in touch with him. He represents Spelthorne in Parliament and should know how his constituents feel. He MP can:
- Write to the Secretary of State if they believe the application raises issues of national significance
- Raise the matter in Parliament
- Provide political weight to your campaign without directly intervening in the licensing process
Before you write to anyone, make sure your representation to the council is submitted first as that is what counts in the formal process. Use the template letters to get started.
